Plot

The Welcome franchise has always run on a simple fuel: too many characters, too much money, and a plan that cannot possibly work. Welcome to the Jungle, the third film in the series, takes that fuel into the jungle itself. A businessman with black money to hide hires the worst directors in the business to make the worst film ever, casting a failure star, a gangster and assorted eccentrics — and the whole shoot promptly goes wrong in the wild, where real danger replaces fake drama.

Directed by Ahmed Khan, the film reunites Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty and Paresh Rawal — the Hera Pheri trio whose chemistry is itself a selling point — with an ensemble of more than thirty actors, including Jackie Shroff, Arshad Warsi, Raveena Tandon, Jacqueline Fernandez, Disha Patani, Johnny Lever, Rajpal Yadav, Lara Dutta and Tusshar Kapoor. The plot is a film-within-a-film that turns into a survival comedy, and the film never pretends to be anything more serious than that.

Performance

Akshay Kumar carries the film as the failure star Rajeev, and he is clearly enjoying himself. His comic timing — the deadpan reaction, the perfectly timed panic — is the reason the film’s best stretches work, and his scenes with Suniel Shetty and Paresh Rawal have the easy warmth of actors who have been making audiences laugh together for decades. Shetty’s gangster Yeda Anna and Arshad Warsi’s Romeo are the film’s other comic engines.

With so many stars, not everyone gets room: several familiar faces appear in little more than extended cameos, and the women — Disha Patani, Jacqueline Fernandez, Raveena Tandon, Lara Dutta — are given energy but not much story. Still, the ensemble’s collective comic experience is the film’s real star. Johnny Lever, Rajpal Yadav and Shreyas Talpade can raise a laugh from a single look, and the film leans on that shamelessly.

Screenplay and Direction

Ahmed Khan directs for scale and noise, and the film is at its best in its long pre-interval stretch, where the fake-film premise clicks and the jokes land in quick succession. The jungle setting is a genuine change from the urban backdrops of the earlier films, and the film-within-a-film device gives the comedy a frame that the franchise had not tried before. The screenplay, from Neeraj Vora’s story with dialogues by Farhad Samji, is built for situational gags rather than plot logic.

The cost is coherence. Scenes arrive without much connection to each other, the second half repeats the first half’s jokes at greater volume, and the film’s length — nearly three hours — tests even friendly audiences. Critics noted all of this, and audiences largely forgave it, because the film never asks to be taken seriously. It is a stress-buster by design, and on that measure it mostly succeeds.

Music

The music leans hard on nostalgia, and that is a smart choice for this franchise. The revived title track and Ucha Lamba Kad Forever, reworked from the original Welcome’s beloved song, are the soundtrack’s centrepieces, and the film’s promotional campaign built its buzz around them. Vikram Montrose, Anand Raaj Anand, Talwiinder, NDS and Sajid-Wajid share composing duties, with Hanif Shaikh on background score.

The songs are staged as celebrations rather than story beats, and they work best when the whole ensemble is on screen dancing together — which is, after all, the point of a Welcome film. The score keeps the jungle chaos moving, and the music’s familiarity is part of the film’s comfort: audiences came to hear what they already loved, dressed up for a new jungle.

Themes

Welcome to the Jungle is a film about failure as a business model — a businessman trying to lose money on purpose, directors trying to make a bad film, actors trying to be bad at acting — and the joke, of course, is that all of them are too good at what they do. The film’s meta humour, including jokes about the actors’ own careers and the Majnu Bhai legacy, is its sharpest material.

Underneath the noise is the franchise’s real theme: that a group of misfits, given no reason to succeed, will muddle through together anyway. It is not a deep idea, but it is a warm one, and it explains why audiences return to these characters. The jungle is just the latest place for that idea to play out.

Conclusion

Welcome to the Jungle became one of the highest-grossing Hindi films of 2026, collecting around ₹196 crore worldwide, and its move to JioHotstar in August gave it a second life with home audiences. Released on 26 June 2026, it proved that the Welcome brand still has pull, even with a film that critics called messy.

Go in expecting chaos, not coherence, and the film delivers exactly that — a big, loud, star-packed comedy that is funniest when Akshay, Suniel and Paresh are sharing the frame. For a family movie night, it is a safe and often hilarious choice.
