Plot

Kaali Kheti is a rural horror film set in a farming village where family, legacy and buried secrets collide with something supernatural. Jackie Shroff and Sharad Kelkar headline the cast, with Neha Sargam, Virendra Saxena and Shaji Choudhary in key roles, and the story unfolds in a landscape where the fields themselves seem alive with fear. The makers have deliberately kept the central mystery under wraps: the posters show a dark, tangled world, and the tagline warns, when darkness falls, the rule of the fields begins.

Director Haris Imtiyaz Khan, who also wrote the film, describes it as an examination of agriculture through the lens of horror, a story where inherited land carries inherited sins, and where a family’s past refuses to stay buried. The film was first announced in May 2026 under the title Kheti, and its campaign has built intrigue piece by piece: first a poster, then character looks, each revealing a little more of the village and a little less of what haunts it.

Performance

Jackie Shroff, in a rare full-length horror role, is the film’s anchor. His rugged, intense presence suits a story about land and legacy: he looks like a man who has worked the fields and buried things in them, and the character posters lean into that image, weathered and watchful. For an actor of his vintage to headline a horror film is itself a draw, and the film’s campaign has wisely put his face at its centre.

Sharad Kelkar, as the other lead, brings a sharp, fierce energy that contrasts with Shroff’s gravity, while Neha Sargam, Virendra Saxena and Shaji Choudhary give the village its texture. Horror lives or dies on its ensemble: the audience must believe in the community before it can fear for it, and this cast, mixing veterans with strong character actors, is built to make the village feel real.

Screenplay and Direction

Haris Imtiyaz Khan writes and directs a film that treats horror as a way of talking about something real: the land, the family, and the secrets that farming communities keep. Produced by Sana Khan under BlackCanvas Studio, in association with Zeroland Production, the film’s rural setting is not a backdrop but a character, and the horror grows out of it naturally, from the fields, the darkness, and the things that happen when the light goes out.

The film was originally set for 23 October 2026 but moved to 20 November, a delay the makers used to build the campaign with motion posters and character reveals. That patience suggests confidence in the concept: a horror film that does not rely on jump scares alone but on atmosphere, and on a mystery the audience must piece together. If the finished film delivers on its posters’ promise, it could be one of the more distinctive horror entries of the year.

Music

Jayadevan Chakkadath composes the music, and for a rural horror film, the score’s job is to make the landscape sound haunted: the wind in the fields, the creak of old houses, the silence before something moves. Horror music works best when it is felt rather than heard, and a film like this needs a score that unsettles without announcing itself.

The film’s sound design will matter as much as its songs, if not more: the tagline itself is about darkness and the rule of the fields, and the audience should hear that rule before they see it. On the evidence of the campaign so far, the filmmakers understand that atmosphere is the real star of a horror film, and the music is being built to serve it.

Themes

Kaali Kheti is about what the land remembers. Its horror is rooted in agriculture itself: the idea that fields worked for generations carry the weight of everything done on them, and that a family’s legacy is not just property but a debt. The film’s title, the dark field, is a metaphor as much as a place, and its story asks what happens when the past planted in that soil finally grows.

It is also a film about family as both shelter and trap. The village’s secrets are family secrets, kept for protection and passed down like inheritance, and the horror begins when someone stops keeping them. That is a rich vein for a horror film, because it makes the fear personal: the monster is not a stranger but a consequence, and the only way out is through the truth.

Conclusion

Kaali Kheti releases in cinemas on 20 November 2026, alongside Pratap, and it offers the weekend’s horror choice: a rural, atmospheric chiller with a strong cast, a distinctive premise, and a campaign that has kept its mystery intact. For horror fans tired of city-set scares, a film about haunted farmland is a welcome change.

Note: as of this post, the film’s official trailer has not yet been released; the makers have so far shared posters and motion posters, and the trailer is expected as the release approaches. For Jackie Shroff fans, for horror lovers, and for anyone who likes their scares rooted in soil and family, Kaali Kheti is one to watch.
