Plot

Few Hindi franchises have exploded the way Dhurandhar has. The first film, released in December 2025, turned Aditya Dhar’s undercover-agent story into a box-office phenomenon, and its sequel picks up exactly where the danger left off. Ranveer Singh returns as Jaskirat Singh Rangi, the Indian intelligence operative living a second life as Hamza Ali Mazari inside Karachi’s criminal world. After the death of Rehman Dakait, Lyari’s underworld is a vacuum, and every gang, handler and rival wants to fill it first.

The Revenge follows Hamza as he climbs that ladder himself, playing Uzair Baloch and the old powers against each other while his own past keeps pulling him back. Arjun Rampal’s Major Iqbal, Sanjay Dutt’s SP Chaudhary Aslam and R. Madhavan’s strategist Ajay Sanyal circle the same ground from different sides. The film is less a mission movie than a turf war, where one man’s cover identity slowly becomes the most dangerous thing in the city.

Performance

Ranveer Singh carries the film on a performance built from two faces at once: the clean-shaven, angry young Jaskirat of the flashbacks and the bearded, calculating Hamza of the present. He plays the difference in posture and silence rather than dialogue, and the long runtime gives him room to let the character harden. It is the kind of star turn that only works when the actor is willing to be unlikeable, and Singh commits to it fully.

Arjun Rampal is a formidable antagonist as Major Iqbal, all cold certainty where Singh is fire, and Sanjay Dutt brings his familiar swagger to Aslam without turning the role into a cameo. R. Madhavan’s Sanyal is the quiet centre of the intelligence game, and Sara Arjun gives the story its emotional anchor. The ensemble works because every player believes in the world they are standing in, even when the violence around them goes operatic.

Screenplay and Direction

Aditya Dhar writes, directs and produces, and the sequel shows the confidence of a filmmaker who knows his audience is already inside the story. The screenplay is structured as a rise to power: each section of Lyari that Hamza takes is a new deal, a new betrayal and a new body, and Dhar keeps the timeline moving between past and present so the audience understands what the rise is costing him. At nearly four hours, the film asks for patience, but it earns it by never letting a set piece arrive without a reason.

The weakness of that scale is also its risk. The middle stretch piles on characters and subplots, and viewers who want a lean spy thriller may find the film sprawling. Yet the sprawl is the point: Dhar is building a world, not just a mission, and the Lyari he films — shot across India and Thailand — feels lived-in rather than dressed up. The action is staged with real weight, and the climax pays off threads the first film only hinted at.

Music

Shashwat Sachdev’s score is the film’s pulse. The songs, including the high-energy tracks released ahead of the film, carry the swagger of Hamza’s rise, but it is the background score that does the heavy lifting across the long runtime — low, driving motifs under the gang-war scenes and sudden silences when a deal turns. Sachdev understands that a film this long cannot stay loud all the way through; it has to breathe, and his music gives it that rhythm.

The sound design deserves equal credit. Gunfire, street noise and crowd scenes are mixed to feel physical rather than polished, which keeps the underworld sequences grounded even when the plot turns mythic. Where the first film’s music announced a new franchise, this score sounds like a franchise that already believes in itself.

Themes

At its core, the film is about identity — how long a man can wear another man’s name before the mask starts making the decisions. Jaskirat became Hamza to serve his country, but the sequel asks what is left of Jaskirat once Hamza has a kingdom, a reputation and enemies of his own. Revenge, the film suggests, is not a single act but a career, and every act of vengeance creates the next person who wants revenge on you.

There is also a harder question running underneath the spectacle: whether a story built on real geopolitical wounds can stay entertainment without becoming propaganda. Dhar does not shy away from that tension; he leans into it, and audiences have argued about it as fiercely as they have cheered the action. That argument is part of why the film became a talking point far beyond its opening weekend.

Conclusion

Dhurandhar: The Revenge is the biggest Hindi hit of 2026 for a reason: it delivers scale, star power and a hero whose rise feels earned rather than gifted. Released on 19 March 2026, it closed the duology’s story while leaving the franchise’s world wide open, and its record-breaking run confirmed that audiences wanted this saga on the biggest screen possible.

It is not a perfect film — it is long, loud and occasionally unwieldy — but it is a committed one. For viewers who followed the first part, this is the payoff; for newcomers, it is a crash course in how a modern Bollywood franchise is built. Either way, it is the Hindi blockbuster that defined the year.
