Plot

Pratap follows a decorated police encounter specialist whose life takes an unexpected turn when he finds himself behind bars. Amit Sadh plays Pratap Ranade, a cop who spent his career putting criminals in prison, and the trailer, released on 26 October 2026, opens on the reversal at the film’s heart: the hunter becomes the hunted, the man who enforced the law must now survive inside the system he served. Esha Deol plays Poonam Ranade, with Seema Biswas, Tigmanshu Dhulia and Milind Gunaji in key roles.

The film moves between Pratap’s past as an encounter specialist and his present life in prison, raising the question the trailer refuses to answer: what happened to put him there, and was it justice or conspiracy? Director Sachin Saraf has said the film explores how a man’s life changes when he finds himself in circumstances he never expected, and the story’s power lies in that fall: not the action, but the humiliation of a proud man learning what the other side of the bars feels like.

Performance

Amit Sadh is well cast as Pratap. His screen presence has always combined toughness with vulnerability, and this role needs both: the swagger of the encounter specialist in flashback, and the stripped-down desperation of the prisoner in the present. The trailer shows him carrying that contrast in his face alone, and if the film gives him room, it could be one of his strongest performances.

Esha Deol, as Poonam, gives the film its emotional anchor, playing the wife who must hold a family together while her husband’s world collapses, and the supporting cast, Seema Biswas, Tigmanshu Dhulia and Milind Gunaji, are exactly the kind of seasoned performers who make a police drama feel credible. The ensemble’s job is to make the fall feel real, and on the trailer’s evidence, they do.

Screenplay and Direction

Sachin Saraf writes and directs a film that is, at its core, a character study disguised as an action drama. The trailer is cut to emphasise the reversal rather than the shootouts, moving between past and present, and Saraf’s stated interest is in choices and consequences: how a man who lived by quick decisions in encounters copes when every decision is taken away from him. That focus is what could lift Pratap above the usual cop film.

The film’s first-look poster was unveiled in September 2026, and the trailer’s reception has already sparked discussion about whether Pratap’s story echoes real Mumbai encounter specialists, though the makers have not claimed any real-life basis. What matters more is whether the finished film earns its premise: a fall is only dramatic if the height was real, and the film must make the audience respect Pratap before it breaks him.

Music

Rohan Rohan and Afzal Ali Khan compose the music, and for a film like Pratap, the score’s job is atmosphere: tension in the prison scenes, propulsion in the flashbacks, and quiet in the moments where Pratap is alone with what he has lost. The trailer music, by Kevin Roy, already sets that tone, all low pulse and sudden impact, and the full score will need to sustain it for two hours.

Pratap is not a musical, and its music should not try to be one. The best thing its composers can do is stay out of the way of the performances while keeping the pressure on, and the trailer suggests they understand that. In a film about a man trapped, the score should feel like walls closing in, and that is a job for restraint, not melody.

Themes

Pratap is about the thin line between duty and justice. Its hero spent his career believing the two were the same, and prison teaches him they are not: the law he enforced can also be the law that fails him. The film asks whether a man who bent rules for good reasons can complain when rules are bent against him, and it refuses, at least in the trailer, to give an easy answer.

It is also a film about identity. Pratap’s whole self was his uniform, his reputation, his power, and prison strips all of it away. What remains, the film suggests, is the real test: who is a man when nothing he relied on is left? That is a question worth a film, and it is why Pratap’s fall, rather than its action, is the story to watch.

Conclusion

Pratap releases in cinemas on 20 November 2026, alongside Kaali Kheti and Suryaa, and it offers the weekend’s most grounded choice: a police drama about a fall from grace, led by a strong central performance and a premise that hooks instantly. For viewers who like their action with a moral question attached, it is a strong pick.

Watch the trailer first: if the image of the encounter specialist behind bars stays with you, the film will too. Pratap is a reminder that the most interesting cop stories are not about the chase, but about what happens when the chase ends.
