Plot

Singgaramm follows Singaram, a Narikuravar bead seller played by Yogi Babu, who travels with his family and community from place to place, selling beads and birds they have hunted. It is a hard, mobile life, and the film shows it plainly, without pity and without gloss.

The trouble at the centre of the story is painfully simple: Singaram’s community lacks official identity papers, so they are denied basic welfare benefits, respect and a fair hearing. When his group arrives in a village expecting peace, they face discrimination and hardship instead, and Singaram has to decide how far he will go to be counted as a citizen.

The story becomes one of an ordinary man finding courage against oppression. Singaram takes on the system not with grand speeches but with persistence, and the film follows his fight for dignity, recognition and the rights of his people.

Performance

Yogi Babu plays Singaram with a restraint that will surprise viewers who know him mainly for comedy. He keeps the humour, but he lets the character’s hurt and determination lead, and the result is one of his most grounded lead performances.

Vela Ramamoorthy, M.S. Bhaskar, Badava Gopi, Sendrayan and Maria Vincent give the film a strong ensemble backbone. The community scenes work because the supporting cast feels like a real group, with shared jokes, shared worries and shared stubbornness.

The performances keep the film from becoming a message delivery system. These feel like people first and symbols second, which is why the social points land as drama rather than as lessons.

Screenplay and Direction

KV Kathirvelu, who earlier directed Rajavamsam, directs with a mix of comedy and social commentary. The film is described by its makers as a comedy and family entertainer, and Kathirvelu uses that lightness to keep a difficult subject watchable for a broad audience.

The screenplay works best when it stays close to Singaram’s daily life, the travelling, the selling, the small humiliations of being undocumented. Some of the later confrontations are broader than the early scenes, but the emotional through-line never breaks.

Kathirvelu’s direction is sincere and uncluttered. He trusts his lead actor and his subject, and he lets the story’s central injustice speak for itself.

Music

Sam C.S. composes music that supports both sides of the film, the comedy and the struggle. His score knows when to be light and when to turn serious, and that flexibility matters in a film that moves between laughter and anger.

The songs carry the film’s warmth, while the background score gives weight to Singaram’s fight. Sam C.S. has a gift for making a scene feel bigger without making it feel louder, and that gift serves this story well.

The music never overpowers the message. It walks beside the characters, which is exactly where it belongs.

Themes

The film’s central theme is identity, in the most literal sense. Without papers, Singaram’s people are treated as if they do not fully exist, and the film asks what dignity means when the state cannot see you.

It is also about the courage of ordinary people. Singaram is not a hero by profession or by training, he is a bead seller who refuses to accept one more humiliation, and the film finds heroism in that refusal.

Finally, it is about community. Singaram’s fight is never only his own, and the film’s warmth comes from the people who travel, work and stand together around him.

Conclusion

Singgaramm is a heartfelt drama with a strong lead performance and a subject that deserves attention. It balances humour and social purpose better than most issue films, and it never forgets to entertain.

For viewers who like Tamil cinema with a conscience, it is a strong theatrical pick, arriving in cinemas on 30 October 2026.

What the film understands is that dignity is not an abstraction. It is a ration card, a hearing, a name on a list, and Singaram’s fight for those small, concrete things is what makes this film matter.

Singgaramm is a warm, purposeful drama that uses comedy to carry a serious message. Yogi Babu’s committed lead performance and the film’s respect for its community make it one of the more meaningful Tamil releases of the week.
