Plot

Years after the first film, Veera and Keerthi are married and raising their young daughter, Mathi. The roles have flipped in an interesting way: Keerthi is chasing her wrestling career at the national level, while Veera has become the stay-at-home parent, running the house and looking after their child.

Their arrangement works until their ideas about parenting begin to clash. Keerthi wants Mathi to follow her onto the mat, Veera wants their daughter to follow her own love of dance, and a jealous wrestling coach is happy to stir the pot. What starts as a domestic disagreement grows into a test of the marriage itself.

The wrestling backdrop is more than decoration. Keerthi’s training and competition scenes give the family story its rhythm, and the film uses the mat as a place where the couple’s arguments can be fought honestly, without words.

Performance

Vishnu Vishal and Aishwarya Lekshmi remain the film’s biggest asset. Their comic timing is sharp, their arguments feel lived-in rather than written, and their chemistry carries even the film’s weaker stretches. Vishnu Vishal in particular is excellent in the second half, where the comedy turns more physical.

Ramya Krishnan adds authority, Yogi Babu and Karunas bring steady laughs, and young Zara, as Mathi, is a genuine scene-stealer. The supporting cast keeps the family world feeling warm and believable.

Aishwarya Lekshmi deserves special mention for playing both the athlete and the mother without letting either side of the character disappear. Her wrestling scenes are convincing, and her domestic scenes are just as strong.

Screenplay and Direction

Chella Ayyavu directs with a light touch, keeping the tone breezy even when the subject turns serious. The second half is tighter and funnier than the first, and the wrestling sequences are staged with real energy.

The film’s weakness is its familiarity. The story follows a predictable path, and its attempt to talk about equality sometimes contradicts itself, falling back on the very stereotypes it wants to challenge. Still, as a family entertainer it moves well and rarely bores.

Ayyavu’s comedy works best when it comes from character rather than from set pieces. The funniest moments are the small ones: a look across the breakfast table, a misunderstanding that grows because nobody will say the simple thing.

Music

Sean Roldan’s music fits the film like a glove. The songs are cheerful and hummable, and the background score keeps the comic rhythm moving, knowing exactly when to step back and let a joke land.

Music has always been part of this franchise’s charm, and Roldan understands that. His work here is not showy, but it keeps the film’s mood sunny from start to finish.

Roldan’s background score also knows when to disappear. In the film’s quieter family scenes, the music steps back and lets the performances carry the emotion, which is a rarer skill than it sounds.

Themes

Beneath the comedy, Gatta Kusthi 2 is about who gets to dream in a family. Keerthi’s ambition and Veera’s domestic labour are both treated as real work, and the film’s best moments come when it lets both partners be right at the same time.

It is also about parenting: the fear of pushing a child too hard, or not hard enough. The film does not solve that question, but it asks it with humour and affection, which is more than most family comedies manage.

The film also asks what equality looks like inside a home, not just in public. Veera’s housework is treated as real labour, and the film’s best joke is that everyone around him still struggles to see it that way.

Conclusion

Gatta Kusthi 2 is not as fresh as the original, but it is warm, funny and easy to like. The leads are in fine form, the family moments ring true, and the wrestling backdrop gives it a flavour of its own.

If you enjoyed the first film, this sequel is a comfortable return to Veera and Keerthi’s world. It is a one-time watch that earns its laughs honestly.

After its theatrical run, Gatta Kusthi 2 arrived on Netflix, where it works perfectly as a relaxed family watch. Put it on with the family, and let the second half do its work.

What stays with you after Gatta Kusthi 2 is not any single joke but the feeling of a family that argues loudly and loves loudly in equal measure. The film understands that marriage is not a single decision but a series of small ones, made every day, and it finds its comedy in that daily negotiation. Vishnu Vishal and Aishwarya Lekshmi make that negotiation believable, and the wrestling world gives their story a physical language for its emotional fights. It is a sequel that respects its audience and its characters, and that respect is why it works.

As a sequel, the film wisely keeps what worked: the leads, the humour and the warmth. It may not reach the original’s freshness, but it is a genuinely enjoyable family film in its own right.
