Quick Facts
Plot
Romanchakam is a romantic comedy about modern dating and the chaos it can cause. Anvesh, played by Sumanth Prabhas, is a young startup founder in Hyderabad who is looking for love in the age of dating apps. When he matches with Mythili, played by Ananthika Sanilkumar, a lively young woman from Chennai, the two hit it off online, and their conversations quickly turn into something more serious.
The fun begins when Mythili decides to visit Hyderabad to meet Anvesh in person. What should have been a simple meeting turns into a series of comic disasters, as Anvesh’s friends, his startup life, and a few unexpected characters get tangled in the visit. The film follows the couple through misunderstandings, awkward encounters and genuine moments of connection, asking whether a relationship that started on a screen can survive the messiness of real life.
Performance
Sumanth Prabhas, who also produced the film under his Bhadrakali Pictures banner, plays Anvesh with an easy charm that suits the romantic comedy genre. He is believable as a young founder juggling work and love, and his comic timing keeps the lighter scenes moving. Ananthika Sanilkumar, making her Telugu debut after her work in Malayalam cinema, brings freshness to Mythili, and her chemistry with Sumanth is one of the film’s strengths.
The supporting cast adds to the fun. Upendra Limaye, Venkatesh Kakumanu and Narendra Ravi play characters who complicate Anvesh’s life in entertaining ways, while Mani Aegurla and Sai Sohan fill out the friend circle. The ensemble understands the tone: this is a light film, and everyone plays it with a smile rather than a frown.
Screenplay and Direction
Director Venu Gopal Reddy keeps Romanchakam simple and breezy, which is exactly what a romantic comedy needs. The film does not try to be a heavy drama; it takes a familiar premise, a dating-app romance, and builds a series of comic situations around it. The Hyderabad setting feels contemporary, and the startup world gives the story a modern flavour that younger audiences will recognise.
Reviewers gave the film around 2.75 to 3 out of 5, praising its light-hearted approach while noting that the story is predictable in places. That is a fair summary: Romanchakam is not trying to reinvent the genre, but it delivers a pleasant, undemanding watch. Its strength is its tone, warm, funny and never mean-spirited, which makes it a good choice for a relaxed evening.
Music
Vasuki Vaibhav composes the music for Romanchakam, and his songs add to the film’s romantic, youthful mood. The soundtrack supports the love story with a mix of peppy numbers and softer melodies, matching the film’s movement between comedy and romance. In a romantic comedy, the music needs to make the audience feel the attraction between the leads, and Vaibhav’s work does that job well.
The background score keeps the comic scenes light and the romantic scenes warm, without ever getting in the way of the jokes. It is not a soundtrack that overshadows the film, but it gives the story its rhythm, and for viewers who enjoy light Telugu romances, the music will feel like a natural part of the experience.
Themes
At its heart, Romanchakam is about love in the digital age. Anvesh and Mythili meet through a dating app, a reality for millions of young Indians, and the film explores the gap between an online connection and a real one. Can you really know someone from chats and calls? What happens when the person you imagined meets the person who actually shows up? These questions give the comedy a relatable core.
The film also celebrates friendship and the chaos of young adult life in a big city. Anvesh’s friends are not just comic relief; they represent the support system that every young person in a new city depends on. The film’s message is gentle: love is messy, whether it starts online or offline, and that mess is part of the fun.
Conclusion
Romanchakam is a light, pleasant romantic comedy that does what it promises. Sumanth Prabhas and Ananthika Sanilkumar make a charming pair, the Hyderabad setting feels fresh, and the dating-app premise gives the comedy a modern twist. It is the kind of film you can watch with a smile, without needing to think too hard.
It is not a path-breaking film, and its story is predictable in places, but as a relaxed weekend watch it works well, and it is now streaming on Netflix for easy viewing at home. For fans of Telugu romantic comedies, Romanchakam is a safe, enjoyable pick.
